Dear Midwifery Client
It is important to the success of the MAMA Campaign to generate as much grassroots support as possible. One important and logical source of this support is from midwives and their clients. To help midwives communicate with their clients we have created a "Dear midwifery client" letter. Midwives, please use the letter below to engage your clients.
The best way to ensure that the MAMA Campaign can continue our efforts in DC on behalf of the midwives and mothers who seek better maternity care choices and reimbursement for services is to help grow our network of activists on the state and local level. As a birth professional, you have a unique opportunity to inform your clients of our work and encourage them to get involved.
Below find text for you to utilize as you draft letters to clients and friends of midwives in your community. Thank you for helping provide this vital boost to our grassroots network for midwifery care.

Dear Client/Friend of Midwives-
As you know, health care reform is moving fast. I recently learned about an important opportunity to increase access to Certified Professional Midwives for women in all 50 states. Because you care about access to midwives for yourself and the people you care about, I thought you might be interested in supporting this historic effort.
The Midwives and Mothers in Action (MAMA) Campaign is hard at work mobilizing support around the country and among policy-makers. Day by day, more of the midwifery community joins in to make a difference. The primary goal of the MAMA Campaign is to achieve federal recognition of the Certified Professional Midwife, which they hope to achieve by adding CPMs to the list of approved Medicaid providers in any one of the Health Reform bills working their way through Congress right now.
Please join the cause by signing up with the MAMA Campaign TODAY. www.mamacampaign.org.
Federal recognition will benefit women in our state because:
[If you are in a state with CPM licensure]:
CPMs who are licensed will be eligible to receive Medicaid reimbursement for their fees, which will allow Medicaid mothers access to the same provider options as are currently available to mothers who have other methods of payment, such as private insurance; and clients who are covered by other insurance policies will be more likely to receive reimbursement for CPM services because many insurance companies use the Medicaid provider list as a guideline for reimbursement; Including CPMs as approved Medicaid providers means that Medicaid mothers will have access to more maternity care options.
[If you are in a state without CPM licensure]:
As we work to gain legal status for Certified Professional Midwives in our state, the fact that CPMs are recognized on the federal level AND can be eligible for federal reimbursement for Medicaid will go a long way in persuading our state lawmakers that licensure is the right thing for (fill in your state here).
So, again, I am asking you to please take 5 minutes to sign up with the MAMA Campaign and do whatever you can to help the cause.
The MAMA Campaign Website will show you how to:
• Donate money to support the professional lobbying efforts
• Write a letter to your federal legislators
• Sign up with facebook, twitter, and the MAMA blog to stay up to date
• Spread the word to family and friends so that our community can join together on a national level to make a change in maternity care in the US that really matters to you and me!
Thanks for listening and for all that you do for midwifery-
